Year 2
Year Two Leaver's Assembly
Council Inspection in Lowfell
Some representatives from Year Two went on a council inspection in Allerdene with some members of Gateshead Council. The children completed a survey about the amount of rubbish, glass and dog fouling in the area. The children discovered that there is a need for more rubbish bins and recycling points in the area to encourage residents to dispose of their rubbish sensibly.
Making Fairy Dens
Some of our Year Two children were inspired by our school grounds to create Magical fairy Dens. According to local folklore there are lots of magical fairies living in the Dene and they were desperate for new homes. The children collected natural materials and created some excellent dens fo our homeless fairies. Follow the links for photos and examples of their writing.
Tag Rugby Training
This half term, all Year Two children were involved in Tag Rugby Training with Mr Davidson. The children loved this opportunity to experience a range of tag rugby skills and you can see from the photos that they had lots of fun!
First Aid Training
This Spring term the children in Year Two had the opportunity to do some first aid training with a qualified instructor. The children were shown lots of first aid techniques, such as how to deal with cuts and burns, bandaging and treating injuries and putting someone in the recovery position. The children were also reminded of the correct number to ring in case of an emergency. Well done to all of our Year Two children for taking part. Click on the links for further images.
NASA Visit
As part of the science topic, Light and Dark Year 2 had a sceince/theatre visit linked to the NASA programme. The children loved dressing up as astronauts, acting out scenes from the moon landings and flying up in space crafts.
One small step for year two, one giant leap for mankind!!
Year 2 Adventure Play
During welly week the boys in Year Two went on an adventure in our school grounds. They re-enacted their own play with help from Mrs Cassin. They went sailing, fought deadly enemies and hunted for hidden treasure. What a great adventure!!
Rememberance Day
Every year we always sell poppies in school to remember and support the soldiers who died and were injured in the World Wars. We also remember all the men and women who continue to put their lives in danger today. Mrs Ackerley and some year two children were invited to the Rememberance service in Lowfell to lay down our own wreath of poppies. Lest we forget!
