Curriculum
The school operates in line with the Gateshead LA Curriculum Policy Statement 4 –19 and within the framework of the National Curriculum by aiming to provide a broad and balanced curriculum of quality.
The Curriculum at Oakfield Infant School is the whole learning experience offered by the school. It is not only the activities and experiences which are planned, organised and provided while the children are at school, but also the tone, standards, quality and discipline of the school alongside the attitudes and values the school puts forward.
The aim is to channel the child's natural curiosity and eagerness to learn through a rigorously planned, broad, structured, activity based programme to meet each child's individual needs.
The Programmes of Study are developed using a cross- curricular approach through themes, topics and the environment incorporating a blend of oral, practical and written work.
Through the structure provided, the staff aim to help each child develop the skills, concepts and attitudes which will enable him/her to grow in confidence through personal achievement.
The Foundation Stage Curriculum for Reception children is delivered mainly through cross-curricular activities to develop the 6 areas of learning. i.e. Personal, social and emotional development; Communication, language and literacy; Mathematical development; Knowledge and understanding of the world; Physical development; Creative development.
